Samuelson’s Diamonds in National Jeweler Network

Samuelson’s Diamonds, the premier downtown diamond destination in Baltimore, Maryland was featured in National Jeweler Network’s Diamond Supply section on June 26th (last Friday:)

Baltimore–Last year, Ron Samuelson, chief executive of Samuelson’s Diamonds in Baltimore, bought an 8.5-carat brownish-yellow round diamond mounted in a men’s nugget ring from a customer who was seduced by the “sell your jewelry” offer on the store’s Web site.

“It was a big, ugly stone,” Samuelson recalls. “When we showed it to our cutter, he said, ‘Yeah, I could make this into a fancy yellow.’”

Some Engagement ring lines are doing well, despite the recession. The resulting diamond, a 6.86-carat fancy-yellow radiant, is now part of the store’s inventory, and Samuelson is confident that when he eventually sells the stone, it will net him a tidy profit.

“I’ve almost eliminated my need for diamond dealers,” Samuelson says. “For every one person who wants to buy a diamond, 20 want to sell.”

As of this release, the ring is still available:

A Brief Memorial: Michael Jackson

Everyone who was within earshot of eyeshot of news (or someone who was) heard yesterday (Thursday, June 25th, 2009) of the famed (and oft infamous) pop singer and entertainer Michael Jackson dying:

Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead today after paramedics found him in a coma at his Bel-Air mansion, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.

From Baltimore’s B the Site, who quotes the L.A. Times, the first to report it.

I am a listener to music that is regarded as ‘way before my time’ so I am familiar with the Jackson 5. Of the Motown singers, or – depending on your taste – of the singers of that era, young Mike was probably the best. Arguments arise about later work, and being a child of the 80’s I enjoy greatly Thriller and things like Smooth Criminal, but the man totally lost me at Heal the World.

People can say many bad things about him (for there are many public records to state misdeed) but I would suggest that we respect those who have passed away, and in particular, perhaps offer MJ the one thing that he paradoxically sought in life: to be left alone.

Maybe that makes me a eulogist, but Michael Jackson dying is not yet another circus. If you found this link through search (at the point of this writing Michael Jackson is one of the heaviest-hit search terms on the ‘net) perhaps consider taking a break from TMZ and the endless gossip. Paris Hilton, MJ and others have a strange relationship with celebrity that their fans enable; their livelihood is tied up in fame, and yet fame is also the source of many of their troubles.

I’ll personally recall the best and not the worst: The world has no need for more reminders of what happens when we make mistakes.

Rest in peace, Michael.

JUNE 3, 2009: Samuelson’s Diamonds, Baltimore’s downtown diamond destination, was the subject of Urban Discoveries Blog’s report entitled ‘Development Spotlight: 400 West Baltimore’:

Samuelson’s Diamonds Downtown … a Baltimore institution for almost ninety years, has been very busy lately. In addition to relocating and renovating its own store, the family-owned company has invested in several properties on the 400 block of West Baltimore Street …

Ron Samuelson, the scion of the diamond dynasty, promises a PNC Bank, a Five Guys, and a Panera. Reputed to be somewhat excitable, but endearing, Mr. Samuelson also promises to play the video of your favorite song when you come visit the new store, which the family hopes to open later this year.

Samuelson’s Diamonds maintains its commitment to the redevelopment and reinvigorating of the downtown business district.

Ron Samuelson on Online Etiquette

JUNE 1 2009: CEO Ron Samuelson of Samuelson’s Diamonds, the premier downtown diamond destination in Baltimore, Maryland, was interviewed by JCK Online about social media strategy, and online etiquette for jewelers and businesspeople:

Likewise, shy away from controversy. Facebook has a space for political and religious views, but being too outspoken can turn people off. [...]

Though Ron Samuelson, of SAMUELSON DIAMONDS, argues that you can be too careful. “I have Grateful Dead YouTubes on my page,” he says. “Has that turned some customers off if they hate the Grateful Dead? Maybe. But not too many.”
