Celebrity Engagements 2012

Angelina Jolie's Engagement Ring

Angelina Jolie’s 16 Carat Engagement Ring

Year 2012 has engagement written all over it.

Numerous celebrities have recently announced their engagements by revealing their stunning new diamond engagement rings. Brad Pitt’s proposal to Angelina Jolie in April sparked public interest in her beautiful ring. Angelina’s $500,000 emerald cut ring set in platinum is astonishing. Miley Cyrus is another celeb whose smile appears infinite as she wears her 18k gold, 3.5 carat cushion cut diamond engagement ring presented to her by Liam Hemsworth in June. Early in 2012, Oliver Martinez proposed to Halle Berry. Halle was first seen in January wearing her emerald and diamond engagement ring with a yellow gold setting. The list of newly engaged celebrities is ongoing but the difference between each engagement is certain. An existing trend of diamond engagement rings within the celebrity world does not appear to exist. Each diamond engagement ring is unique and special in different ways.

Samuelson’s Diamonds Filtered Yelp Reviews

We’ve written about Yelp’s review practices in the past and how they filter reviews. Well, we got two (good ones) over the weekend. One stuck because it was from a Elite Yelp member. The other got filtered and it was a REAL REVIEW from a REAL CUSTOMER.

So without going into Yelp’s business practices over again, we decided to display the FILTERED YELP REVIEWS we have received. CLICK HERE TO LOOK ON YELP.

I recently traveled to Baltimore to search for an engagement ring. Prior to my trip, I had researched and scheduled appointments with several Jewelers in the area. From the beginning, the staff was particularly responsive and attentive to my budget, design choice, etc.

When I arrived (with an entourage of my sister, mom, hopeful fiance’s best friend, and sister’s boyfriend) they were always courteous. It was clear from the beginning that the staff had put time and effort into finding their best selection of rings, diamonds, and settings.

I purchased a ring from them that day and am still thrilled with the decision.

Hi Ron, Steve, Cara and Paul:

All of you are fabulous!  I had a ball getting my new GORGEOUS rings.  Talk about the perfect experience – Education on the 4 Cs and tips on diamonds and the biz, plus enormous patience and a big dose of kindness and lots of laughs along the way.

Besides buying my stunning rings, I sold  a diamond and slew of silver and gold.  All transactions were a breeze.

High marks to Sameulson’s for the kind of  experience today that money cannot buy…TRUST and CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Hope to see you soon.  Fran

I love this store, such a dying breed of locally owned business, esp those that have been in the community as long as these guys. i have admired much (yes, when it comes to diamonds bigger & color is better :) but not had a chance to buy any big beauties yet.

the best part is that even if i am in there for a ring repair (with my grandmothers 80 yo ring i trust them!) i still get great customer services as if i was dropping some big coin. i used to sell jewelry years ago and these guys are all about customer service, they want you back & they’re not going anywhere. and thats exactly what you want with the type of purchase you might make there.

if you care even just a LITTLE about Baltimore then you have to stop in and see them. we need to support every merchant like this that we have in the city.

  • I have had only good experiences with Ron and Samuelson’s.  My husband bought my engagement ring there, which is BEAUTIFUL.  Ron is very passionate and serious about what he does, but he SHOULD be, given the amount of trust (and investment) you are putting in to this type of purchase.  We love Samuelson’s!

Ron and his team at Samuelson’s Diamonds are the best. The personalized attention I received was first class all the way. Ron’s consultative approach to buying diamonds allowed me to make an informed buying decision. Thanks for a wonderful buying experience!! Look forward to working with you for many years.

Ron and his staff really did an outstanding job helping me select first an engagement ring and then helping my fiancé and I pick our wedding bands.  My grandfather was a jeweler, so I had an interest in buying from a locally owned place that offered a personal feel to the ring buying experience.  Ron greeted me warmly when I came in the door and let me sit comfortably as we reviewed his selection.  He listened carefully to what I was interested in and provided valuable information and insight.  I’d shopped at several other stores, and I ultimately found that I was most pleased with the attitude and service at Samuelson’s, and I found the engagement ring that I liked the best there.  Most importantly, she said “yes” and she loves the ring.  Many thanks to Ron and his staff for helping to make this another meaningful part of our story.

i have been using Samuelson’s Diamonds for my jewlry purchases over 10 years now.  i can honestly say that i would never go anywhere else.  Their service and attention to detail are second to none.  i have purchased many diamonds from them.  i like that they are straight forward and give me all of the information i need to make a great decision.  i have been to other stores that won’t even give you the time of day but at samuelson’s i have always been treated extremely well.  i have also purchased a watch, watch bands, studs, bracelets and necklaces.  i keep coming back because the quality is incredible and the prices are great too.  i am sure you will have the same experience that i have had because every time i am in the store they treat everyone with respect and dignity.

12.76 Pink Diamond Unearthed in Australia

A 12.76 carat rough pink diamond was mined at a Rio mine in Western Australia.  This marks a record for the largest pink diamond ever unearthed in Australia’s history.

Early estimates anticipate that the diamond will command $10-$20 million dollars if it is sent to auction. Josephine Johnson, Rio’s Argyle Pink Diamonds manager, expects cutting and polishing to take approximately 10 days.

“A diamond of this calibre is unprecedented and generating incredible excitement – It’s taken 26 years of Argyle production to unearth this stone and we may never see one like this again.”

The pink diamond market is one that is described by the miner as “elite and discrete” with buyers including heads of state, royalty, celebrities and other high net worth individuals.

Demand for such rare pink diamonds have caused prices to skyrocket and are thought to be one of “the most concentrated forms of wealth on earth and well in excess of white diamonds,” according to Rio.

We Loved Our Living Social Deal and So Did You!

In July, we ran our first Living Social deal and we had a great experience with them.  We also received some great feedback from new customers that purchased our daily deal and we wanted to share that feedback with you

I LOVED THEM!! They were so helpful and treated me like “gold”, even though I had a coupon. I would highly recommend them!!

As a small family owned business that has been around since 1922, we pride ourselves on great customer service.  We treat every customer the same regardless of whether or not they are spending $500 or $50,000.

Additionally, we realize how important it is to educate our customers so that they can make the best decision when purchasing an engagement ring or a pair of our beautiful diamond earrings!

Stay tuned for our next Living Social Deal that will be up before Valentine’s Day!

Panera Bread Moves Next Door to Samuelson’s Diamonds

The Samuelson Family always keeps their promises. Back in May of 2009 I went on the record, The Daily Record, and promised:

Mmmmm....Asain Chicken Salad and French Onion Soup

Mmmmm....Asian Chicken Salad and French Onion Soup

Ron Samuelson said that the company is in talks with PNC Bank, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Panera Bread and “other major retailers” to come to the site as tenants…

Well, it’s been over two years but we kept our promise. Now we welcome Panera Bread to the block as our neighbors and tenants.

Everyone loves Panera. Some of my favorite menu items are the French onion soup, Asian chicken salad and the oatmeal raisin cookies…and I can’t wait to find some more!

Here's Panera, we are to the right - click to enlarge

We’ve known about this for a few weeks and kept it on the DL, but when The Baltimore Business Journal came out with this article, we wanted to give you something fun to read. They also didn’t mention that Panera was moving next to a 90 year old institution in Baltimore, so if they’re not going to mention us, we are!

We are right next door, and we all know that people who love gourmet coffee and Asiago bagels LOVE DIAMONDS!!!

Click here to see our May 2009 blog post/press release about it. A nice pic of David and me in front of our store with a sign – “coming soon”.

A Retail Experience Focused On Customer Service And Education

Gold jewelryIt occurs too often these days; a retail experience where you feel like the salesperson wants your money or to do whatever it takes to make a deal. It is rare where you find a salesperson who truly cares about the customer experience and takes the time to educate consumers.

One very important aspect of our business is buying diamonds, gold and silver from the public. We have a very discrete office setting in Chevy Chase, MD where you can sell your jewelry. Regardless of whether or not you decide to sell your items to us we believe strongly in education, as it is one of the most powerful tools for any consumer. Recently, we received this thank you from a client that visited us in Chevy Chase.

I had the opportunity to meet Paul this afternoon and sell two 14k gold pieces. It was a wonderful experience and he was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. He explained many facts about metals and diamonds that I never knew about. The entire appointment was very pleasant and I will now highly recommend Samuelson’s to all my friends!

We love hearing when our customers are having such positive experiences. However, the reason we are sharing this experience with you is to highlight how our family owned and operated business has survived for 90 years. We take a lot of pride in educating our customers. To be honest, we want to close the sale as much as anyone else but we want you to leave with an education as well.  Whether you are buying jewelry or selling jewelry in either of our locations, this is the type of service our customers can expect.
