On November 2, 2013, Michael popped the question to his girlfriend, Jessie. He told Jessie they were “going to dinner” around 5 PM on a Saturday night. They headed over to a place in Fed Hill and walked on the Harbor Walk promenade along the water. As they approached the Ritz Carlton and Harbor View homes, he stopped her at a final turning point, said a little speech, told her they were not going to dinner and proposed.
After celebrating her agreement to his proposal, he revealed to Jess that a mutual friend videotaped the entire event and he came and took a few pictures. After this Michael and Jessie headed back to his apartment for a final surprise. Both of the couple’s families and friends were waiting for them at Michael’s apartment, and everyone celebrated the happiest day of the couple’s lives to date.
Everyone at Samuelson’s has to agree that Michael did an excellent job on both the ring and the proposal. He chose a 14kt white gold diamond halo engagement ring with a princess cut diamond and couldn’t have picked a more perfect backdrop, the Inner Harbor. The extra touch of having someone videotape and take photos of the proposal is such a fantastic idea. This way the moment he popped the question was still intimate and only between the two of them, but they will always have the video and pictures to re-live that special moment.
The couple will be busy with wedding planning over the next year – they are getting married November 8, 2014 in Seabrook, SC. Congratulations Michael and Jessica from all of us at Samuelson’s Diamonds!

Small Business Saturday is November 30 this year, and we’re getting super excited to celebrate with all our customers making the decision to shop small.
What is Small Business Saturday all about?
Small Business Saturday was first observed on November 27, 2010 and was created to encourage holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. Check out the video below for a more detailed look.
Why is it important to Shop Small?
There are plenty of reasons to shop small – below are some of our favorites:
1. When you shop small and local more than 50% of the money you spend stays in the community
2. 71% of small business owners give to local charities that improve their neighborhoods.
3. Because of small businesses, 65% more jobs have been created over the past 17 years.
You can see more reasons why Small Business Saturday is important here and here.
How is Samuelson’s Diamonds celebrating Small Business Saturday?
We’re encouraging everyone to kick off their holiday shopping with us! Stop in on November 30, anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for some shopping and snacks. Dogs, chips, dips, and other refreshments will be provided. You can also pick up a free jewelry cleaning kit and an exclusive coupon for 20% off of purchases in the month of December.

Drinks where flowing and sushi (from the delicious RA Sushi) was enjoyed during the 6:30 – 7:30 networking reception. We had the chance to catch up with members of Maryland blogging community as well as take in some of the art exhibits on display.
The awards ceremony was a blast. Emceed by Baltimore Sun’s at Michael Gold and Julie Scharper they got the crowd warmed up with a hilarious video about prepping for “mobbies season”.
1 winner was selected from each of the 22 categories, and accepted their award on stage. Samuelson’s Diamonds was in the category Best Organization/Company Blog and we were up against some of the best. The winner in our category was the National Aquarium WATERblog. Samuelson’s ranked in the top ten for our category so thank you to everyone who voted for us.

The “Pink Star”, a flawless pink diamond the size of a plum, sold for 76.3 million Swiss francs ($83.02 million) in Geneva on Wednesday, a world record price for a gemstone at auction. The oval-shaped diamond, mounted on a ring, weighed in at 59.60 carats.
Our own Ron Samuelson was impressed by the sale of this diamond as well, saying, “The price realized on this rare diamond is incredible. Prices on colored diamonds continue to be extremely strong and there is no end in sight. This demonstrates that there are investors who believe in the strength of the diamond market long term.”
What do you think of this diamond? What would you do with 59.60 carats?

Our love for Halloween (combined with a love for diamonds, engagements and weddings) got us thinking about how much fun could be had planning a Halloween themed wedding and our curiosity led us to Pinterest. We found lots of ways you can pull off a Halloween wedding theme in a DIY fashion and without being “tacky”.
Below are five of our favorite Halloween themed wedding details:
1. Spooky Invites – who doesn’t love an adorable skeleton or zombie couple on an invitation
2. Completely unique ring shots – You can bet your ring shots will be like none other. Candy Corn and Jack-O-Lanterns are only cool this time of year.
