Sterling Silver Flatware

Most people selling their sterling silver in Washington DC have American silver – Gorham, Steiff, International Silver, Tiffany and Co, Wallace and Lunt just to name a few. This is categorized as 925 silver, meaning that the pure silver content is 92.5%. However with Washington DC having a big international crowd, we’ve also been buying silver that is marked 800. In Europe and South America a lot of silverware is made with this silver content which means that it is 80% pure silver.

So remember that when you are selling your sterling silver, look for the mark on the back that will indicate what percentage of silver you have.  Of course, if you’re not sure, we are glad to explain this in detail to you when you visit our Chevy Chase office or in our Baltimore store of course.
